Politics 2.0: Youth and Political Participation in the Digital Age

The course examines patterns of political participation of youth in the digital age and the changes they are going through in a changing media environment. The course discusses various issues among them how youth consume political information in a changing media environment? How digital and mobile media impact the construction of political identity among young people? How do youth perceive political participation in the digital age? How youth use digital media to promote social and political change? How do young people learn about political issues in the digital age? How much young people interact with the "other" in a changing media environment? What are the characteristics of the generation gap in political participation in the digital age? The course will discuss these issues from a theoretical and empirical perspective as well as analyzing digital texts that young people create in Israel and around the world such as political blogs, political groups in Facebook, Internet memes, YouTube videos and more.
