Course description

Children and Youth Culture: Research Methods

Class

The course introduces the key concepts of social sciences qualitative research methods, as well as research tools employed by them, while focusing on four points:

  • Introduction of features unique to qualitative (as opposed to quantitative) research approaches
  • Review of data collection and processing methods (also by using the internet)‏
  • Questions of ethics
  • Interviews with children (practical experience)

These are to be examined in light of issues unique to children and youth participation in academic research, such as children-adults hierarchy, children’s will to please adults and the option of having children partake in the actual research, to cite but few.
