An introductory course which addresses fundamental concepts in psychoanalytic thought and examines the philosophical consequences of these concepts. The unconscious, drive, desire, sexuality, fantasy and transference will be presented through some of Freud’s classical texts: “Repression”, “Beyond the Pleasure Principle”, “Instincts and their Vicissitudes” “Constructions in Analysis” and others. In analyzing these concepts, their philosophical significance will be examined. For instance, the affinity between the psychoanalytic subject of the unconscious and the Cartesian cogito, the relation between the primordiality of the drive and the origin of language and speech.
