Course description
Course Objectives: Introducing the basic and essential concepts of western Modern Philosophy (17-18-centuries) according to its main thinkers. The course focuses on the metaphysical systems and the epistemological methods of these thinkers.
Course Topics: 1) Introduction: the concept of History of Philosophy; the cultural-historical limits of Modern Philosophy. 2-4) Rene Descartes; 5-6) Baruch (Benedict) Spinoza; 7) John Locke; 8) Wilhelm Gottfried Leibniz; 9) George Berkeley; 10) David Hume; 11-13) Immanuel Kant; 14) Conclusion: the achievements of Modern Philosophy; the Dialectic of Enlightenment.
Literature: Selected chapters from the above philosophers' writings. The bibliography will be distributed at the beginning of the semester.
Student Assignment: A classroom-exam.
