Course description

Media and Internet Regulation

This course suggests a critical analysys of Media Law and the govermental regulation of the electronic media: TV, online content providers and social networks. Throughout the course we will examine various regulation practices and the legal and social challenges they raise. The course will examine the roles of different legal fields in shaping the regulatory practices and their limits: Consitutional Law and Free Speech, Antitrust Law and theories of regulation. Alongside the legal analysis, the course examines the regulatory issues in the context of Law, Culture & Society and reviews the hidden social costs of media regulation. By understading the theory and practice of media regulation this course will grant the students analytical tools for understanding and evalutation of the existing regulatory framework as well as future regulation of online media sevices.
