Course description

Intellectual Property Seminar
Intellectual Property law is in the midst of dramatic changes. The legal protection accorded to copyright, patent and trademark owners has expanded and strengthened, and at the same time, the scale of infringements enhanced. Is the expansion justified? What is the meaning of IP law to the economy, culture and society at large? The seminar will focus on controversial areas of IP law, such as the scope of the fair use defense, its meaning in a digital environment, the doctrine of contributory infringement, the cultural meaning of copyright law and trademark law, the socio-economic implications of patent law, the status of methods of doing business, the fate of IP law in a global environment, protection of pharmaceutical test data, online trademarks, and more.
