Prostitution and Trafficking in Women from a Legal and Social Perspective – Ms Nomi Levenkron
The course introduces students to the world of prostitution and trafficking in women, and studies authorities’ attitudes as well as the broader social context on these topics. We will examine the interrelations between prostitution, trafficking in women, society and the authorities in shaping stances on prostitution and trafficking in women. As part of the course, we will familiarize ourselves with the key players – the women, the traffickers, the pimps and the clients – and the activities of different Israeli authorities involved: the Knesset, the Israel Police, the State Attorney’s Office, and the courts. We will examine the myths and the realities in the field manifested in contemporary Israeli society, and compare the local scene to the situation elsewhere in the world.
