Social neuroscience is situated at the intersection of social psychology and cognitive neuroscience. The overarching goal of the field is understanding the neural bases of social behavior and social cognition and using that knowledge to inform psychological theory. In the course I will survey key research and methods in social neuroscience, including topics such as theory of mind and empathy, social pain and reward, development of the social brain and social brain disorders.
