Course description
What is the role of the supreme court in democratic systems? To what extent should judges decide on issues that may be considered political and what are the limits of judicial review? Should politicians influence the design of the court, for example by nominating justices to the supreme court? Israel is not the only country currently dealing with these complex questions. The past decades have witnessed an increasing judicialization of politics around the world. The course will examine key issues in the relations between law and politics by reviewing recently published theoretical literature on the topic and by analyzing case-studies from Israel and abroad.
