Course description
The course seeks to explore modes of interpretation of architecture in historiographical context.
Reading in critical theory texts, in the course, we will examine several models of architectural interpretation in the intellectual context in which they emerged. Among others, we will examine modes of political interpretation (Foucault) in opposition to aesthetic ones (Adorno), and their combining (Deleuze, Rancière), post-Marxist interpretation (Tafuri, Hays), psychoanalytical modes of spatial interpretation (Vidler, Cousins), postcolonial theories (Bhabha), gender theories (Colomina), critical-technology (Picon) and phenomenological modes of interpretation (Leatherbarrow, Pérez-Gómez).
The aim of the course is to establish knowledge that will assist the student locate his/her research in relation to the critical-theoretical discourse that was developed in architecture in the last forty years.
