Course description

The course will examine the transformations architecture is undergoing as a result of the development in digital technologies and the information technology revolution. In the first part of the course, we will discuss three paradigmatic transformations in architecture resulted by the evolution of the digital media: a shift from machine to electronic and bio architecture, the evolution of information architecture, and the growing dominance of the temporal dimension in contemporary design.

In the second part of the course, we will examine architectural and artistic articulations resulted by the above-mentioned transformations. Among other, we will discuss the following topics: folding in architecture (Deleuze and Lynn), architecture as field condition, network architecture (Wigley), interactive-responsive architecture, virtual architecture and genetic architecture (Chu).
