Course description

The course focuses on the integration of the conceptual and physical aspects of architecture, in the design of complex buildings. The students will have to negotiate the theoretical with the practical aspects of design of complex buildings, moving from top down and vice versa, in a manner which simulates the process taking place in architectural practice.

The students will choose an intervention center (out of several different centers defined at the beginning of the course) on which to design their complex, multiple use building/s, which may be comprised of work environments, residential units, commercial, public, leisure, & entertainment functions. In their design they will have to take into consideration the urban context of the site of their choice, pertaining city plans, relevant building codes, legislation, infrastructures, area tabulations, materials and up-to-date technologies.

Work will be carried out in an all- studio-forum, as well as in groups (to be determined in coordination with the studio teachers at the beginning of the semester) Their work will have to be presented in a variety of modes: visual (in a variety of scales), oral, and in writing.
