Course description

The course focuses on the integration of the conceptual and physical aspects of architecture, in the design of complex buildings. The students will have to negotiate the theoretical with the practical aspects of design of complex buildings, moving from top down and vice versa, in simulation of the process taking place in architectural firms.

The students will choose a site (out of 7 different sites presented at the beginning of the course) on which to design their complex, multiple use building, which may be comprised of work environments, residential units, commercial, public, leisure, & entertainment functions. In their design they will have to take into consideration the urban context of the site of their choice, pertaining city plans, relevant building codes   legislation, infrastructures, area tabulations, materials and up-to-date technologies.

The course work will be carried out in groups (to be determined in coordination with the studio teachers at the beginning of the semester, & will be graded with regard to their individual work and professional achievement throughout the semester, as well as the quality of the design work of their group. Their work will have to be presented in a variety of modes: visual (in a variety of scales), oral, and in writing.
