Course description

The course is offered to students from the School of Architecture and from the Faculty of the Arts, as well as to few students from other faculties. The structure of the course and its emphasis are based on the premise that the knowledge of architectural history is essential for architectural education, can facilitate critical architectural thinking, and promote creative and meaningful design.

 

The course objectives are to familiarize students with significant architectural movements and iconic buildings of the 20th century in Europe and North America, while exploring the broad cultural, social and political and aesthetic context in which these took place.  In addition the course will encourage students to creative and critical thinking in architecture. 

 

The course, conceived as a series of 28 lectures, deals with architecture in the 20th century, and will concentrate on topics which were central to architectural thinking and  creation  during this epoch.
