The course is designed to broaden the understanding of building technology and production, and develop technical skills of the student. The course is composed of series of discussions and tutorials on various aspects of the selection of materials and development of building details. The tutorials will be executed by the students individually, within the studio and during the allocated time, under direct guidance and assistance. The intention is to teach detailing as an integral part of the design process: a process which requires consideration of the nature of materials, the production and manufacturing processes, the limitations of the craftsmen and the environmental implications of their use and recycling. The booklet submitted at the end of the semester will be a facsimile of all the drawings produced by hand in the studio.
