Course description

This class explores the intersections between gender and modern architecture during the 20th century. We will examine themes such as the "New Woman" and the domestic reform in the in the first half of the 20th century, first generation of women architects, women's design and design for women and gender mainstreaming in planning. This class begins with an introduction to theoretical texts exploring feminism and gender and then discusses a series of topics in modern architecture that raise issues concerning gender.
