The course will deal with architectural styles as a starting point to stage design. The first semester will explore the development of the classical style starting from Greece through Rome to the Italian Renaissance renewal. We will go through the different stages of the designer in developing a suitable space for a play, with an emphasis on collecting documentation and sources of inspiration. We will examine the act of translation and adaptation of the periodical style to the stage, with the focus on the Renaissance proscenium stage.
