Course description

The aim of the course is to provide students with the practical and theoretical tools for developing their academic literacy, with a particular focus on academic writing. By reading, analyzing, and discussing a variety of texts, students will learn to identify the conventions of academic writing, the structural and stylistic features of various types of texts, including research articles, and how these relate to the wider world of academic discourse and the scholarly responsibilities it entails. Through a series of graded exercises, students will develop their skills in formulating a research question; in stating and developing an argument; in searching for and using bibliographical materials; and in enhancing the quality of their writing by applying the criteria of academic writing: originality, clarity of expression, logical structure, coherence, cohesion, etc.
