A systematic overview of design styles throughout history studied through two central perspectives that relate to the immediate human surroundings:
A. Interior design styles as reflected in space, furniture, decoration and functionality.
B. Garment design styles and conventions of fashion as they are reflected in the shape, ornamentation and materials, as well as hairstyles and accessories throughout Western history.
The course is based on frontal lectures accompanied by a rich variety of visual information. The lectures are organized chronologically and focus on history of design and its connection to culture, historical conditions, ideological aspects and technological means.
