Course description
The Chinese cinema reflects the vicissitudes of the 20th century: from the last gasps of Imperial China, the raise of national rule, the Japanese occupation, the era of communist regime, and the recreation of China as a global Empire. In this course we shall examine the ideological and aesthetic changes in the Chinese cinema in the three territories in which it was made: China (People's Republic of China), Taiwan and Hong Kong.
