Course description
The course will examine different issues concerning sound and image interaction in cinema. What are the complexed messages that sound create in relation to the image? How is the spectator manipulated emotionally? How does the sound function in different genres? What is its subversive quality?
We will analyze sound and image relationship via various theoretical perspectives. We will examine different authors works and expressions that enriched sound's contribution to the filmic experience as directors Lars von Trier, Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch, Pedro Almodóvar, Jean Luc Godard, Spike Jonze and Carlos Reygadas.
