Course description
The cinema of Jean-Luc Godard
This course deals with Jean-Luc Godard’s cinema since the early fifties until nowadays. It will focus on four different points:
a. The new wave period (the late fifties and the beginning of the sixties).
b. The militant “Maoist-Marxist” period (late sixties and the early seventies)
c. The intertextual approach to cultural myths in the “Trilogy of sublime” (the Eighties)
d. The video period and the work on the History of cinema (the nineties).
Through a thematic and esthetic analyze of Godard’s cinema, we will try to measure his contribution to modern cinema.
