Course description
Queer theory is a critical method of analysis that chalenges any politics, theory or practice that enforces or produces the notion of the natural in sexuality. This seminar will explore the major arguments and models of queer theory by discussing the gay and lesbian representations in classical and contemporary film. We will examine terms such as performativity, heterocentrism, heteronormativity, the gay closet, male homosexual desire, and the transgender identification. The seminar will emphasize the importance of categories such as spectatorship, genre, narrative, aesthetic, and authorism in queer film theory.
