This second-year pro-seminar introduces prominent approaches to film theory since the 1970s
such as psychoanalysis, feminism and gender, cognitivism, and phenomenology. Classes will
include analytical and critical readings of key texts and lectures. Students will be required to
engage in regular intensive reading of demanding theoretical texts, actively take part in class
discussion, hand in two papers during the term, and submit a final research paper using
theoretical approaches and films selected by the course instructor
