Course description

Post production - picture

 

Today the use of visual effects and extensive post production work is very common in TV and Film productions of all genres and formats, where the goal is to enrich the visual quality of the image, reduce production costs and provide practical solutions to overcome technical difficulties.

 The post production is the third and final step in making a movie. It follows the preparation stage (pre-production) and the shooting stage (production). This stage combines all the raw material through editing, sound design, visual effects, color grading, image enhancement, etc., in order to reach the finished product.

The goal of this course “post production – picture” is to widen the set of tool available to the film maker in order to allow him to tell the story in most compelling visual manner. The course will focus on all aspects concerning the image from the pre-production planning, through image correction and color grading and up to adding new visual element to the image.

In the course we will review the terminology and basic concepts of the post production and VFX (visual effects), the use of storyboards, videoboards and animatic previz in order to plan the needed elects for the post production stage; Image enhancement through the use of color at the grading stage; insertion of photo realistic elements, removal and cleanup of unwanted elements through the use of green screen, doubling and CGI (computer generated imagery) and more…

During the course we will review film such as “The Wolf of Wall Street”, “Forest Gump”, “Rouge One – a Star Wars Story”, “Sin City”, “Zodiac”, “JFK”, “2001 a Space Odyssey”, “a Scanner Darkly”, “Kill Bill”, “The Crow” as well as Israeli film such as “Waltz with Bashir”, “Abolele” and more…

Additionally, during the course each student will plan and produce a short film that will incorporate the different elements of post-production.
