Course description

Editing 1 is a studio class where students present their work during the semester.

The class is based on Directing and Photography exercises produced by the students in relevant classes and which they edit to bring an exercises to its final stage. During the lesson the student’s work will be discussed with the participation of the other students.

Main issues that will be discussed: from frame to shot, from shot to scene, continuity and screen directions, cinematic time, building the feeling of space, the sequence of shots and coherent storytelling, principles of cinematic syntax: slow disclosure, separation, parallel action. POV of the scene, what is important to the director and what is important to the spectator, the shooting plan according to film language and wishful result, the fresh look: the ability and need to make something new from the shot material.
