This seminar will focus on the transition from Renaissance to Baroque cultures through the prism of Claudio Monteverdi's musical works. We shall investigate the relation between changes in compositional techniques, aesthetic goals and musical principles of correctness on the one hand, and the scientific revolution(s) and the religious reformations on the other.
