The course discusses musical style, structure and expression in compositions of Beethoven's "heroic" period (1802-1814), including the symphonies nos. 3-7; the piano sonatas op. 31 nos. 2 & 3, op. 53, op. 57 and op. 81a; the string quartets op. 59 (nos. 1-3) and 95, and the 4^th piano concerto.
