Course description
     The course will analyze the main genres in Rachmaninov’s music: piano miniature, chamber music, music for Russian Orthodox Church, symphony and symphonic poem.
The course will concentrate on three basic aspects:
 
-  sound of bells as a main element in Russian music in general and in Rachmaninov's music, in particular;
 
-    Russian Orthodox chant (znamenniy chant) and its impact on Rachmaninov’s music;
 
* The motive of Dies Irae in the Romantic music of the 19-th century and its role in the music of Rachmaninov.
