The course offers a survey of the evolution of musical genres and styles form 850-1550. Special emphasis will be given to the evolution of music as reflecting the broader cultural, ideational, intellectual, social and theological contexts during the period in question and will survey of the evolution of musical styles, notions of correctness, and aesthetic ideals from ancient Greece to the 15th century.
