Course description
The objective of this course is to become familiar with and perform piano solo works written after 1945 that became an integral part of pianists’ concert repertoire. The course will consist of two components: a. performance practice and b. historical context
a. Each participant will choose a selection from the suggested list of works (to include compositions by Messiaen, Ligeti, Corigliano, Crumb, and Takemitsu among others). He/she will play in class 2-3 times during the semester and receive detailed feedback from the instructor and the participants. All participants will perform their chosen selections in the final recital.
b. Participants will learn about important composers, compositional techniques and expanding possibilities of piano playing through lectures, reading, and listening.
