Course description
The study of film composers and their influence on the classical concert repertoire as well as their place and influence in music history. The composers we will study and analyze include Erich Korngold, Elmer Bernstein, Georges Auric, Aaron Copland, Dimitri Shostakovich, Sergei Prokofiev, Leonard Bernstein, John Williams, William Walton, Miklos Rozsa, Bernard Hermann, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Nino Rota, Lalo Schifrin, Alan Silvestri, Phillip Glass, John Corigliano and Ennio Morricone. Students will be introduced to music through guided listening, music analysis, reading, live performance and presentation.
