The course discusses the various meanings of the reality embodied in realistic styles developed in different historical contexts: Realism and Impressionism in the 19th century; Magical Realism, Social Realism, Socialist Realism and Nazi realism between the two world wars; and Hyper-Realism in the second half of the 20th century.
