Course description

In this course we will discuss key texts that have shaped or profoundly affect the practice and research of visual arts from the 18th - until today. These texts provide for the discipline of art history analytical tools for analyzing and understanding art works. In addition these provide insights on the role of art in modern culture. In the first part of the lesson will focus on texts dealing with traditional methods of analysis for form and content. In the second part we will discuss texts that raise questions regarding the role of the artist. And the third part will be devoted to theoretical texts that formulate the changes in contemporary culture, thus as an attempt to understand the basic concepts that affect the practice and criticism of art.

Each week we will focus on one central text (required), accordingly will examine works of arts and other relevant texts.
