This seminar will focus on research projects that the participants will develop during the course as we encounter and work with primary sources of Israeli theatre history. In order to do so, we shall collaborate with The Israeli Center for the Documentation of Performing Arts at Tel Aviv University. Theoretical issues we will address include the unique characteristics of theatre history and historical research, the challenges of theatre and performance historiography, and the ways to work with primary sources in order to construct and create new paths in the history of Israeli theatre. In the seminar, we will also discuss the characteristics of the archive in the digital age and new ways to preserve and document theatrical works of art.
