How and why contemporary live performance takes an interest in the body?

The seminar examines these relatively new concerns in relation to the recent shift in cultural paradigms, and problematizes the ambiguous ontological status of the performing body. Drawing on diverse theoretical speculations we will look into various manifestations of the body in performance: the conceptual body, the political body, the fabricated body, the grotesque body, the body-machine/cyborg, etc.
