Course description
Richard Schechner diagnoses three significant shifts in 20th century performing practice: “from naturalism to alienation effect to auto-performance.” This course will concentrate on auto-performance. Since the revolutionary 60s, this mode of acting/performing, has redefined traditional concepts of acting, the role of the actor and his/her status. We will analyze the aesthetics and ideology of auto-performance, and will explore its manifestations.
