This course acquaints the students with an applied methodology of performance analysis. Throughout the course we shall watch documented as well as live shows followed by discussions with the creators and/or in class. The central principles are aimed to offer a critical view of the theatrical event: locating performance analysis in the vast field of performance studies, a socio-cultural understanding of the theatrical event, the role of the director, the functions of dramaturgy, and main aspects of staging – space and acting.
