This course acquaints the students with methodology of performance analysis. It offers a critical view of the theatrical event: locating performance analysis in the vast field of performance studies, a socio-cultural understanding of the theatrical event, the role of the director, the functions of dramaturgy, and main aspects of staging – space and acting. These factors will also be examined in light of performance modes that clearly deviate from traditional definitions of dramatic components. Throughout the course participants will attend theatrical events and apply their acquired perspectives respectively.
