This course acquaints the students with of performance analysis. It offers a critical view of the theatrical event: locating theatre in the vast field of performance studies, a socio-cultural understanding of the performance, the role of the director, the dramaturgical shift from page to stage, and main aspects of staging – space and acting. These aspects will also be examined in light of performance modes that clearly deviate from traditional definitions of dramatic components. Throughout the course, participants will attend theatrical events and apply their acquired perspectives respectively.
