Course description
The course proposes to explore some philosophical texts dealing with tragedy since the Greek Antiquity and up to the 20th century. Among the philosophers and theorists who focused on the intricate connections between theatre and philosophy are: Plato, Aristotle, Hume, Dryden, A.W.Schlegel, Schiller, Hegel, Diderot, V. Hugo, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Artaud, W. Benjamin, and G .Steiner, to mention but a few. The chosen texts will be discussed in class and followed by final papers.
