The students will examine concepts related to the possibility to institute subjectivity using film, literature, art and postmodern theories of psychoanalysis. The concepts specter, phantom, ghost, and revenant, truth, desire, history, love, the real, dream, thinking, sublimation, anamorphosis, scopophilia, voice and the Thing are central to this seminar. These are concepts that semiotics examines in the visual arts and in the narrative mediums at the same time that the modern psychoanalysts Lacan, Laplanche, Pontalis, and Bachelard continue to use them in order to understand subjectivity.
