Black swan events like September 11th attacks, are rare and unexpected, have a tremendous effect, and often inappropriately rationalized after the fact with the benefit of hindsight. In our time, black swans are becoming more and more common, and subsequently fill the imagination of artists, film makers and writers. Current continental theory is also occupies more than ever with the question of the event, its singularity, the gap it opens between "what has happened" and "what comes after the fact". In this seminar major theoretical trends will join forces with key texts, films and works of art in the pursuit of a shared vocabulary of the black swan event.
