The intuitive core of the "possible worlds" framework is the Leibnizian idea that our world is not the only possible one; that there are other possible worlds
beside the actual one. The topic of possible worlds has given rise in the last few decades to a wide interdisciplinary literary corpus. Initially the central focus of discussions was on philosophical logic and ontology, the framework has since been applied in many other disciplines of our culture.
The course will examine how the discourse on alternative possible worlds can illuminate various issues in philosophy of science, literature and the arts.
