Course description
Issues in Transportation planning
(Parallel requirement: "An introduction to Economic Geography")
The transport system is often described as the blood system of society and especially that of the economy. Virtually every economic activity, and most social activities, involves the transport of people and goods from one place to another in some form or another. Alongside transport’s contribution to society, through its social and economic benefits, transport activities also entail a cost to society, mainly in the form of negative environmental impacts. Balancing the full costs and benefits of transport is a real challenge that requires understanding of the demand for transport and the influence of transport infrastructure on this demand. The course aims to provide the basic understanding in transport planning with a holistic environmental, social and economic view.
