Course description
This class will concentrate on the status of women in Judaism during the period of the Second Temple. The main basis will be a continuous reading of texts, non-canonical Jewish texts (including Qumran writings) and early Christian texts on the basis of lately developed feministic hermeneutics. Given the variety of Jewish texts to be dealt with this class may serve – in a way – also as introduction to Second Temple literature.
