Course description
Introduction to Medieval Jewish Thought: Kabbalah and Philosophy: Part I
The first part of the introduction to medieval Jewish thought: kabbalah and philosophy will focus on the emergence of medieval Jewish philosophy. Starting with Sadia Gaon, continuing with Shlomo ibn Gabirol, Yehuda Halevy up to Moses Maimonides, the introduction will introduce the basic ideas and issues dealt by Jewish philosophy and its impact on the development of new forms of Jewish religiosity. Special attention will be given to the impact of Platonic and Aristotelian philosophy on the articulation of medieval Jewish thought.
