In this seminar, we will stage a comparative encounter between the two cultures by close reading and discussion of classical historical studies on Russia and China from the seventeenth to the twentieth centuries. We will treat the core issues of Russian and Chinese history as well as learn a variety of original scholarly approaches to them.
