Course description
Religious Riddles: East and West
Dr. Nehama Verbin, Prof. Galia Patt-Shamir
The seminar deals with some of the ways in which Eastern and Western traditions use riddles for showing the nature of faith, of virtue and of that which cannot be said, or the ineffable. We will examine the ways in which riddles function as the point of intersection between text and life, the ways by which they spring from life, are expressed in texts, and then are responded to in life. Moreover, through using riddles of various kinds, we will explore similarities and differences among Jewish, Christian and Asian traditions and philosophies.
