This is an introductory course to politics in Japan, the oldest democracy in East Asia. This course introduces important actors in Japanese politics (e.g., politicians and political parties, bureaucrats, firms etc.), basic concepts and different theoretical approaches. We will study local and national political institutions, and discuss how Japan’s society influences and is influenced by the various political reforms.
